Lisa Scigliano, Ed.M, M.A.

Licensed Educational Psychologist, LEP

I am a Licensed Educational Psychologist (LEP #3869) specializing in the assessment and intervention of students' learning, social-emotional, and behavior needs. My student-focused approach to assessment and intervention fosters collaboration among all stakeholders to support the unique needs of the child, adolescent, or young adult I am serving.

I have worked as a school psychologist in the public school sector for over eight years, serving students in Palo Alto, Burlingame, and currently Portola Valley. Throughout my time working in public schools I have conducted extensive psycho-educational assessments, oversaw the 504 process, provided counseling to students, as well as consulted with staff and parents to support an array of student needs (academic, behavioral, and social-emotional). I have provided services to students from preschool age through high-school.

Prior to my career as a school psychologist, I worked at Google in advertising. My time at Google provided me with a deep understanding of the culture and complexities of Silicon Valley. As a result, I have a wealth of experience and knowledge in supporting families within the Bay Area. I am eager to utilize the skills and knowledge I’ve gained working in schools to foster success and support your child’s educational goals.

Assessment:

I provide independent psycho-educational assessments for school age children and adults to address a wide range of learning needs. The evaluation includes in-depth records reviews, interviews, observations, and standardized tests. The first step is an initial consultation meeting, conducted either via phone or in person. Following the initial meeting, observations may be arranged. Subsequently, testing sessions will be scheduled. Depending on the stamina of the individual, testing generally consists of multiple testing sessions, approximately 1-2 hours in length. Once testing is concluded, the results will be scored, and a written psycho-educational report will be provided. Upon completion of the report, a consultation meeting will be scheduled to review testing results and recommendations.

What is a psycho-educational evaluation?

A psycho-educational evaluation is administered to assess the underlying cause(s) of academic difficulties. The evaluations utilize a variety of tools to identify processing strengths and weaknesses, learning disabilities (e.g. dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia), ADHD, social and emotional disabilities (e.g. anxiety, depression, behavioral disorders), intellectual disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, and other psychological disorders impacting learning and school performance.

>Psycho-educational evaluations include an in-depth review of educational records, parent and teacher interviews, observations, rating scales, and individually administered tests. Depending on the referral concern, a variety of assessment measures can be utilized in the following areas:

  • Intellectual Functioning (IQ)
  • Visual-motor Integration
  • Attention and Impulse Regulation
  • Processing Speed
  • Auditory Processing
  • Language
  • Visual-Spatial Processing
  • Memory
  • Executive Functioning (e.g. planning, cognitive flexibility)
  • Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Functioning
  • Academic Achievement (e.g. reading, writing, mathematics)
  • Phonological Processing

Once the evaluation is completed, a detailed written report will be provided outlining the findings as well as recommendations for enhancing school performance. Recommendations may include classroom interventions to improve student behavior and academic performance.

My main goal is to provide you with findings in a concise and clear manner to help inform decisions to support your child’s educational success.

Please note: Intelligence testing for private school admissions is also offered.

Consultation:

In addition to conducting evaluations, I can provide consultation for parents and schools (public and private) to address academic and/or behavioral challenges including learning disorders (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia) and ADHD.

I am also qualified to consult and collaborate with parents and school teams regarding 504 plans and Individual Education Plans (IEPs).

Executive Function Coach

Executive functioning coaching is also available to support organizational strategies, assignment planning and time management for children and adults.
